Nīla is an accessories brand based in Chennai, India, led by childhood friends, Shwetha Lakshmanan and Pritika Akhil Kumar, who had long been seeking an opportunity to collaborate on a project.
During the pandemic, they finally found the time and resources to come together. This collaboration led to the creation of a brand that combined their individual ideas, interests, beliefs and goals.
Thus, Nīla was born.
Shwetha Lakshmanan
Hailing from a family of manufacturers and exporters of apparels and accessories, Shwetha has always been fascinated by the field of manufacturing. To her, the joy of watching a concept materialise into reality is unparalleled. At the same time, she also recognised that though many products in the global market were "Made in India", there was still a dearth of Indian brands that made an impact in global market. This is especially true in the case of sustainable products. Fuelled by the desire to create a truly sustainable brand, conceptualised and made in India, Shwetha sought out her friend and designer, Pritika to create Nīla.
Pritika Akhil Kumar
An architect and researcher by training, Pritika has always been driven to find unique, well-designed solutions to the challenges of daily life. Having conducted in-depth research on topics like climate change and sustainable development, she is sensitive to the immense challenges faced by the planet. By bringing together her passion for design and knowledge on sustainability, she hopes to create a positive impact in the lives of consumers without compromising the future of the planet. For her, Nīla is a small step taken today to make a more conscious, inclusive and sustainable tomorrow possible.
