ABOUT CORK

What is cork?

Cork is the outermost homogenous layer layer that grows around the trunk of the cork oak tree (Quercus Suber) that mostly grows in the southwest Europe and northwest Africa regions. This layer is removed from the tree without harming it and then processed.

How is cork fabric produced?

Done only by the experts, the harvesting of cork takes place during the active growth season. A period of at least 9 years is required between harvests to ensure that the bark reaches the right thickness. This process of harvesting also helps the tree absorb carbon dioxide, offsetting millions of tons of carbon dioxide every year.

After the bark is removed, it is processed and converted into different cork products. A backing is added to the fabrics to make them more elastic and durable.
